The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) has seized five more containers filled with electronic waste (e-waste) at Port Klang today following intensified inspections at the country’s busiest gateway.

The NST portal reported that sources said the containers were detected during checks on 22 containers carried out by enforcement teams earlier today as part of an ongoing crackdown on illegal e-waste imports.

“All five containers inspected were confirmed positive for e-waste,” a source familiar with the operation told the New Straits Times.

The seizures are believed to involve an estimated 110 tonnes of e-waste based on today’s inspections alone.

Port Klang MCBA commander Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal confirmed the development, adding that a press statement would be issued later today.

The latest haul comes amid heightened enforcement at Port Klang, with MCBA ramping up inspections after receiving intelligence on suspicious shipments.

Sources said enforcement personnel conducted physical examinations after risk profiling flagged the containers, leading to the discovery of mixed electronic waste believed to have been imported in violation of environmental regulations.

The containers have been placed on hold pending investigations, including coordination with the Department of Environment and the Customs Department.
