
KOTA KINABALU – UPKO President Datuk Ewon Benedick has formally requested a review of the 1976 Petroleum Development Agreement with Petronas, stating that the Sabah State Cabinet never approved the first 5% royalty agreement. UPKO opposes comprehensive federal authority over state oil and gas resources and calls for the full implementation of Sabah’s constitutional 40% revenue entitlement together with increased local autonomy. The state-level energy laws and scheduled waste control will be directly impacted by this political drive, which will expedite East Malaysia’s autonomy movement under the MA63 framework.
