China showcased its environmental achievements at a side session during the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belém, Brazil, on November 10, underscoring its broader vision of ecological civilization and its ongoing efforts to address climate change.

According to a report by CGTN, the event, held at the China Pavilion under the theme on ecological civilization and the practice of building a “Beautiful China,”, brought together senior Chinese officials and top United Nations climate leaders.

Li Gao, vice minister of China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment, highlighted China’s progress in building low-carbon cities. He noted that more than 70 percent of global carbon emissions come from cities, making urban low-carbon transition essential not only for tackling climate change, but also for improving quality of life and achieving high-quality development.

He expressed hope that the event will serve as a new starting point for deeper exchanges and broader cooperation, helping build beautiful, livable and resilient green cities and injecting greater momentum and certainty into global climate governance.

“China has created remarkable ecological and green development miracles,” he said, adding that the country will continue advancing ecological civilization with broader vision and stronger measures while implementing its national strategy and promoting the Global Development Initiative, Global Security Initiative, Global Civilization Initiative, and Global Governance Initiative, for tackling climate change, to help address climate change.

Zhu Boying, head of CMG’s Latin America bureau, noted that through storytelling and visual reporting, CGTN aims to showcase a real and vibrant China, call for collective global climate action and strengthen cooperation in ecological and climate governance. He added that CGTN will continue to promote dialogue on green development, broaden international cooperation and offer new insights for cities pursuing sustainable growth.
