UNITED STATES – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) faces a critical August 3, 2026 deadline to rule on remanded 2024 Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) exemption petitions for small refiners, including Alon Refining and HF Sinclair. Following an April 2026 D.C. Circuit Court ruling that overturned the agency’s original denials, the refiners filed an emergency motion to compel action, prompting the EPA to formally commit to issuing new determinations by early August.
The ruling will have an immediate impact on the energy industry, directly influencing the price and trading dynamics of Renewable Identification Numbers (RINs).
