KUALA LUMPUR – Economic data reveal that Malaysia has successfully rebalanced its energy import sources, dramatically reducing dependency on Middle Eastern crude transiting via the Strait of Hormuz while increasing imports from African producers. Economists point out that this structural shift increases national energy security and protects critical domestic manufacturing sectors, including petrochemicals, speciality materials, and heavy industry, from potential raw material supply shocks. While national crude sourcing updates improve macroeconomic stability, industrial plant operators continue to face fluctuating energy baseline costs, highlighting the strategic importance of incorporating locally recovered alternative fuels, such as Re-Refined Base Oil (RRBO), to ensure operational continuity and long-term cost stability.
