Zeekr 009 ultra luxury EV has been named overall best car at the Malaysia Car of the Year (MCOTY) 2025, underscoring the automotive industry’s continued shift towards electrification.

The electric multi-purpose vehicle stood out for its advanced electric powertrain, high levels of refinement, comprehensive safety features and luxury-focused design.

MCOTY 2025 marked the second consecutive year an electric vehicle has taken the awards’ top honour, reflecting the growing presence of electrified vehicles in Malaysia’s automotive market.

Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad was named Automotive Person of the Year in recognition of his leadership in strengthening the national carmaker.

Under his leadership, Perodua delivered strong sales performance, contributed significantly to total industry volume and maintained a consistent focus on efficiency, quality and value.

His stewardship also supported vendor development, workforce upskilling and alignment with national automotive and sustainability policies, including the development of Perodua’s first locally developed electric vehicle, the QV-E.
