SINGAPORE – Leading marine fuel testing organization VPS has issued an urgent operating warning, citing a significant increase in off-spec bunker fuel, chemical contamination, and fuel quality degradation from regional refiners. Despite passing conventional ISO 8217 compliance testing before delivery, high-volatility marine fuel mixes cause significant mechanical damage, excessive engine sludge accumulation, and widespread operational disagreements among commercial vessel operators. The notice emphasises systemic issues in low-sulphur fuel processing, as well as the critical need for advanced diagnostic testing and improved fuel handling standards along global marine commerce routes to reduce engine failure risks.
