The intense hum of meticulously tuned engines, the sharp scent of burning rubber, and the pure adrenaline of motorsport – these are the hallmarks of a thrilling race day. Yet, as the world pivots towards a more sustainable future, even the high-octane realm of automotive racing is embracing environmental responsibility.

Nowhere is this more evident than at the Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) Festival, where for a second consecutive year, Pentas Flora is accelerating the pace of change. As a proud sponsor, Pentas Flora isn’t just about branding; they are pioneering a crucial initiative that brings circularity directly to the racetrack, transforming the very essence of motorsport’s environmental footprint.

Race Day, Reimagined for Responsibility

The atmosphere at the Sepang International Circuit during Round 1 of Season 8 of the TGR Festival in April was electric. Within the confines of the circuit, the raw power and precision of the Vios Challenge cars created an undeniable energy. But beneath this performance, a quiet revolution was unfolding, championed by Pentas Flora.

Motorsport, by its nature, generates significant waste, particularly used lubricants. Traditionally, this waste oil would require extensive management, often leading to environmental concerns. However, Pentas Flora, a leading re-refiner producing high-quality Group II and Group III Re-refined Base Oil (RRBO), has engineered a solution.

As the official waste oil collection partner for TGR Festival, they’ve pioneered a comprehensive system since Season 7 to collect, transport, and re-refine every drop of used oil generated from the race cars. This innovative initiative transforms a potential environmental burden into a valuable resource, closing the loop on a critical waste stream and directly contributing to a circular economy within motorsport.

“It’s exhilarating to be part of a race that doesn’t just push the limits of performance, but also the boundaries of environmental responsibility,” states Gunaprasath Bupalan, Head of Strategic Communications & Corporate Communications for Pentas Flora. “Witnessing the sheer speed on track is one thing, but knowing that every litre of oil used here contributes to a sustainable cycle is incredibly powerful. My recent media experience, pushing one of those machines to 180km per hour, was absolutely thrilling – a visceral rush of speed and control, the track a blur, the engine roaring directly behind me. But that exhilaration is matched by the profound satisfaction of knowing we’re actively making motorsport greener, setting a benchmark for others to follow.”

This commitment to sustainability resonates throughout the entire TGR Festival experience. From the meticulous collection points at the pit garages to the secure transport back to Pentas Flora’s state-of-the-art re-refinery, technology and best practices are applied at every step to ensure efficiency and environmental integrity. It’s a tangible demonstration of Technology in ESG in action, integrating advanced waste management into a high-performance environment.

Looking ahead, the excitement only builds for Season 8. Following the adrenaline-packed Round 1 in April, attention now turns to Round 2, coinciding with the Super GT Festival at Sepang International Circuit from 27th to 28th June 2025. This will be followed by Round 3 from 8th to 10th August 2025, also at Sepang, with the final Round 4 expected in October 2025 at a location yet to be confirmed. Pentas Flora will be there at every stage, reinforcing their dedication to a cleaner, greener motorsport.

Gunaprasath Bupalan’s role extends beyond the technical aspects of sustainability. He also enjoys the unique privilege of engaging with the heart of TGR Festival – its drivers. His interviews with profound Rookie drivers, seasoned Pro drivers, and racing legends like Tengku Jan and Alex Yong provide a deeper insight into the sport and its evolving landscape. These interactions highlight how even within the competitive world of racing, there’s a growing awareness and appreciation for sustainable practices, thanks in no small part to initiatives like Pentas Flora’s.

The partnership between Toyota Gazoo Racing and Pentas Flora serves as a powerful model. It demonstrates that peak performance and environmental stewardship are not mutually exclusive. Instead, they can be intertwined, creating a thrilling and responsible spectacle that inspires both on and off the track. As Season 8 unfolds, watch how the synergy of speed and sustainability continues to drive motorsport towards a brighter, greener future.
