EUROPE – Today marks the implementation of the historic Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR—Regulation EU 2025/40), which is directly applicable to all 27 member states of the European Union. Strict chemical prohibitions and supply chain compliance regulations are immediately enforced. Food-contact packaging that contains hazardous “forever chemicals” (PFAS) over stringent concentration limits is absolutely forbidden from entering the EU market under the new requirement. However, all international producers, importers, and brand owners who sell packaged goods in Europe are required to have active Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) registrations in each target nation as well as official EU Declarations of Conformity.
