A series of fires, including peat, grass and waste site blazes, have swept across several districts in Johor over the past week.

State Fire and Rescue Department chief Siti Rohani Nadir urged the public not to engage in open burning, particularly under the current hot, dry and windy conditions, NST reported.

She said the department’s operations recorded extensive damage across multiple locations.

The Bukit Tuatau landfill site in Bandar Penawar, Kota Tinggi, involving some 79.32ha, is 80 per cent contained.

The Jalan Kampung Punggal–Desaru, Bandar Penawar grassland fires, covering 70ha, are 96 per cent curbed.

A small-scale fire at Blok B, Rumah Iskandar Malaysia in Johor Bahru, covering 0.81ha, is 50 per cent kept in check.
