KUALA LUMPUR – The Works Ministry has verified that the RM2.1 billion Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK) expansion project, which includes a new 999-meter Genting Sempah tunnel, is moving ahead of schedule and is now expected to be completed by early 2029. The upgrade, carried out by concessionaire AFA Prime Berhad across a 45.3-kilometer length between Gombak and Bentong, increases the corridor to up to four lanes in each direction, increasing total road capacity by 25%. The project aims to effectively manage daily traffic volumes, which have more than tripled to 135,000 vehicles, by expanding key bottlenecks and adding parallel tunnel infrastructure between the Klang Valley and the East Coast.
